What To Wear To Your Next Photo Session

After looking at these two images I think we both can agree that an outfit as the power to completely change the look and feel of an image. My brand is very soft, dreamy and light so there’s no question on what I get my clients to wear. NEUTRALS! I even take it a step further and ask them to try and wear warm neutral tones. Warmth in an image is the difference between the dreamy session you have always wanted and just a basic picture with a blue temperature to it.

What To Avoid

So we now know that we want to wear neutrals and preferably the warm neutrals but what are the things you for sure should be avoiding? Here’s my list

1. Blue, I mean blue of any kind

What are my other options then? I suggest black jeans, tan or brown jeans, white jeans, a skirt and or dress. IF you must wear blue jeans, reach for a light blue jean rather than a dark blue jean

2. Two Dark Tops

What do I mean? Well If one person decides to wear a black top then the other person should wear a lighter colored top. Having two dark colored tops can change the tone of the image and believe it or not your skin tone.

3. Hats

Men should avoid all hats. Especially baseball caps. As for women, we have a few options but I strongly suggest not to plan your hair and outfit around it because it should be used as an add on not something you wear the whole time. Wearing a hat can make some of the poses really hard to do. * Winter hats are not included in this list

4. Matching Outfits

Matching outfits are cute for Christmas morning but not for professional pictures and it can look cheesy

5. Uncomfortable clothes and shoes

If you aren’t comfortable then you won’t look comfortable. My style of photography is very candid and lifestyle so I need my clients to be able to move and be comfortable and that is super hard when they show up in a tight outfit and high heel shoes that they can barely move in.

6. Wearing Plain Tops

You don’t want to both show up in a plan white t-shirt. The best thing you can do is take advantage of layers and textures in clothes. You would be surprised how much that makes a difference in your entire look and image.

I hope this gives you a good idea of what to shop for and to create the perfect outfit to achieve the session of your dreams!
